About Us

The Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences was established in 1982 through the generous support of the Rappaport family to promote excellence in biomedical research within the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion. The Institute supports outstanding researchers from the Faculty of Medicine with research funding, laboratory space and access to advanced equipment.

Professor Karl Skorecki is the Director of the Rappaport Institute, as well as Director of Medical & Research Development, Rambam Health Campus.

During more than two decades of activity, the Institute has established itself as an internationally recognized research center and counts several world-renowned scientists among its members.

The Institute presently has four "Centers of Excellence": The Cardiovascular Research Center, The Cancer and Vascular Biology Research Center and The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research Center, and The Population Genetics and PharmacoGenomics Research Center. A fifth Center of Excellence, The Alzheimer’s  Research Center, will be established in the near future.
