The Rappaport Family Institute is a source of great pride for anyone affiliated with the Technion in general and the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine in particular. The Rappaport Institute is an internationally renowned research institute which houses some of the leading teams in medical research. Only recently, two of its researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work. Distinguished Professors Avram Hershko and Aaron Ciechanover were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their monumental ground-breaking research of the ubiquitin system and cellular protein breakdown; and they continue to develop their research under the sponsorship of the Rappaport Institute. The Institute is home to many other leading researchers who conduct world-leading research in a variety of medical and bio-medical fields. I wish to express my gratitude to Ruth and Bruce Rappaport whose generosity and foresight enabled the establishment of the Rappaport Institute, and their continued support has been an inspiration for all of us.
